How did El Gordo end? Christmas Lottery winning numbers and endings of recent years

Every year, as 22 December approaches, many players look back at the numbers that won El Gordo in the Spanish Christmas Lottery before choosing their ticket (décimo). In this post we list the first prize of recent years, with its ending, and look at which digits come up most and which have not appeared for a while.

El Gordo year by year (2010-2025)

These are the numbers that won the first prize of the Christmas Lottery Extraordinary Draw over the last sixteen years, with their last digit and last two digits:

Year El Gordo Ending Last two digits
2025 79.432 2 32
2024 72.480 0 80
2023 88.008 8 08
2022 05.490 0 90
2021 86.148 8 48
2020 72.897 7 97
2019 26.590 0 90
2018 03.347 7 47
2017 71.198 8 98
2016 66.513 3 13
2015 79.140 0 40
2014 13.437 7 37
2013 62.246 6 46
2012 76.058 8 58
2011 58.268 8 68
2010 79.250 0 50

Which endings have been repeated most in recent years?

Looking only at the last digit of El Gordo between 2010 and 2025, the distribution is:

  • Ending 0: 5 times (2010, 2015, 2019, 2022 and 2024).
  • Ending 8: 5 times (2011, 2012, 2017, 2021 and 2023).
  • Ending 7: 3 times (2014, 2018 and 2020).
  • Endings 2, 3 and 6: once each.
  • Endings 1, 4, 5 and 9: not once in this period.

Notably, the ending 90 came up in both 2019 and 2022, and El Gordo ended in 0 three times in just six draws (2019, 2022 and 2024).

Ending 5: the historic favourite that has not come up since 2008

Across the whole history of the draw, 5 is the ending that has produced El Gordo most often, with more than 30 first prizes, followed by 4 and 6. Ending 1, by contrast, is the least frequent. However, the last El Gordo ending in 5 was 32,365 in 2008, so many players consider it an ending that is "due".

Do endings help you win?

To be clear: every draw is independent and all numbers from 00000 to 99999 have exactly the same chance of winning. How often an ending has come up in the past does not change its chances this year. Even so, choosing a ticket by an ending with history, a special date or a hunch is part of the tradition and excitement of the Christmas Lottery.

What is certain is that the refund (reintegro) depends on the ending: if your ticket ends in the same digit as El Gordo, you get your stake back (20 euros per décimo).
